Patio prices in Peterborough

Published local figures, what pushes a price up or down, a planner to size your project, and what a written quote should spell out.

Published local prices

Checkatrade’s Peterborough page lists these averages for paving work (seen 22 October 2026):

Type of workAverageTypical range
Patios and paving£3,747£2,539 to £5,495
Block paving£3,659£2,338 to £5,850
Driveway and patio design£7,484£5,311 to £10,851

These are averages across many jobs of different sizes and materials, so treat them as a starting point rather than a price for your garden. A small, simple area in concrete flags can come in well below them; a large porcelain or stone patio with steps and drainage can sit well above.

What your patio size means on the ground

Enter a rough length and width to see the area, how many slabs or blocks it takes, and how much digging is involved. It is a planning aid only, with no prices, so you can describe the job clearly when requesting a price.

20.0square metres
41slabs, with about 10% extra for cuts
3.0cubic metres of soil to dig out
4.2tonnes of Type 1 sub-base

Rough guide only. It assumes a 100mm compacted sub-base and a dig of about 150mm for porcelain, 170mm for sandstone and 180mm for block paving. Your ground and design may need more.

What moves the price

  • Size. The biggest single factor, although small patios cost more per square metre because setting up is the same.
  • Material. Porcelain and limestone generally cost more to buy and lay than concrete flags or block.
  • Ground. Clay, buried rubble or an old concrete base to break out all add digging and waste.
  • Access. If everything has to be barrowed through the house or down a narrow side path, it takes longer.
  • Extras. Steps, raised areas, edging, slot drains and lighting each add to the total, as does skip hire or taking the spoil away.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Choose a standard slab size and a simple shape with fewer cuts.
  • Reuse sound existing edging or steps where they still do the job.
  • Clear plants and furniture from the area yourself before work starts.
  • Ask whether excavated soil can be spread elsewhere in the garden instead of being taken away.

What a written quote should show

A useful quote lists the area in square metres, the dig depth, the sub-base thickness, the bedding method, the slab and jointing material, how drainage will be handled and how waste leaves the site. It should also say what is not included. With those details on paper, two quotes can be compared properly instead of just looking at the totals.
